What do you think?

This is the first paragraph from a story I'm writing.

As I have done on many such mornings, I twitched aside the curtains and surveyed the panoramic view my seventh-floor window offered. The girl was there again, a dependable Ra who ushered in the sun. She stood outside the building at a flower stand that had been set up overnight. It was not one of the more pompous ones, with each breed and family organized into neat castes. Here the plants were flung together in promiscuous abandon, with tulips married to roses and hyacinths necking with cornflowers in the breeze. She eyed the selection as children do in candy shops, and finally laid a gloved hand on a basket of lilies. The jackal-faced clerk nodded and took her money. The girl then turned and entered a taxi, which slid like a stick of butter over a hill, settling among the glossy scarabs that were gathering outside a cemetery.

What do you think?
you obviously have no idea how to write decent literature.

with that much writing already done the cannibals should have eaten her by now!

Opinions on this poem?

Seconds old and shrieking

My blue baby

They said you couldn’t breathe

But you were warm

My blue baby

You were mine

Three years old and smiling

My blue baby

Sniffing cornflowers

They said you were all wrong

But you were all there

And my blue baby,

You were mine

Sweet sixteen and crying

My blue baby

They said you couldn’t feel

But you felt for him

And my blue baby,

You were mine

Twenty-seven and kissing

My blue baby

They said you wouldn’t last

But you were there

Dressed in white

And my blue baby,

You became his.

Opinions on this poem?
i agree with nancy - too many "blues"

other than that - i like it
Reply:I think it's very moving. But I think it would have more impact if you took out all the "blue's" until the last stanza. Make it more like a surprise to the reader. (Just my opinion!)
Reply:I understand completely where you are coming from, and where you ended up with this poem! I'll bet your daughter cried when you gave it to her at her wedding too. For that purpose it was a wonderful sentiment, for a poem to publish, it would need to be reworked, but it is beautiful as it is for why it is written. Thanks for sharing.
Reply:Its very interesting. I like it a lot.

What do you think of this poem (not mine)?

Some of you may have already read it! It's 'Litany' by Billy Collins:

You are the bread and the knife,

the crystal goblet and the wine.

You are the dew on the morning grass

and the burning wheel of the sun.

You are the white apron of the baker,

and the marsh birds suddenly in flight.

However, you are not the wind in the orchard,

the plums on the counter,

or the house of cards.

And you are certainly not the pine-scented air.

There is just no way that you are the pine-scented air.

It is possible that you are the fish under the bridge,

maybe even the pigeon on the general's head,

but you are not even close

to being the field of cornflowers at dusk.

And a quick look in the mirror will show

that you are neither the boots in the corner

nor the boat asleep in its boathouse.

It might interest you to know,

speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world,

that I am the sound of rain on the roof.

What do you think of this poem (not mine)?
It's a good example of Billy Collin's work and what has made him a popular poet, one that even non-poets know.
Reply:It is a beautiful play with images, metaphors in particular:

It is possible that you are the fish under the bridge,

maybe even the pigeon on the general's head,

but you are not even close

to being the field of cornflowers at dusk.

I'd add I'm the jigger in a blind person's toe!

It reads like a song and pleasant to the ear.

Billy had a sharp ear for that always.
Reply:i think it is funny, yet ...hm, it gives out a lot of images to play with ang i guess it can make ppl give the words a deeper thought, overall i can say i enjoyed it.

Flowers for a winter wedding.?

The bridesmaids are wearing cornflower blue.

Flowers for a winter wedding.?
with that blue, its hard to give you anything like red...since you don't like yellow, then go with just a few different shades of blue! i've seen it done and its very cool, put in the bouquets some "bouquet jewelry" and your set!
Reply:White and Yellow roses. They're cheap and iin saeson year round.
Reply:White Roses with blue ribbons on them would be pretty and would match the bridesmaid dresses. What is the overall theme of the wedding. I could tell you more.

Reply:white rses with touches of yellow.
Reply:As much as I HATE pointsettias at a wedding, you may want to incorportate some white or light yellow ones if you can find them...or at least cream.

My colors were periwinkle (or cornflower) with a hint of yellow but I was married in May...

Since they are more of a summer or spring color (to me anyway), you might be able to pull of the potted points to give it more of a Christmassy effect...they would be pretty anywhere.

Good luck and congrats!

Which of the following flowers emits a sap that can be harmful to other flowers?
Daffodils, if mixed with other flowers in a vased arrangement, can damage other cut flowers.

If you're asking about cut flowers -vased

I don't know about any of them emitting anything that is harmful to another plant.

Art/wall decor for teen bedroom?

My room was recently re-painted. The walls are a tan color with one accent wall that is a cornflower/periwinkle blue. I would like some ideas on cheap DIY ideas for my walls. Something like cutting a picture in half or thirds and putting it on picture frames in a sequence. Pictures of the craft would be great just so I can get a feel of what it looks like.

Art/wall decor for teen bedroom?
Stretching fabric on inexpensive stretcher frames (found in art stores) can be a great way to get some color/graphics on the wall. The frames are easy to slip together, then use a staple gun to stretch and attach the fabric to the frame.

If you can paint a design on the wall - find a design you like and use an inexpensive projector to enlarge the image onto your wall. A neat effect is to use a paint color a tone lighter or darker than the main wall paint color.
Reply:I think that is a great idea and I have seen it done many times on HGTV. Sorry I don't have anything to show you.

Appropriate colors for a fall wedding?

I really want to use light blue (cornflower) and light green as colors at my afternoon/early evening wedding in September. Is there etiquette around that, or can I just choose the colors I want?

Appropriate colors for a fall wedding?
A. You can have the colors you want, no matter what season or month.

B. Since September is one of those 'in between' months - not quite Fall, but not Summer anymore- you can get away with a lighter color and those 'seasonal' people will be ok with it.

C. There is NO etiquette that says you can only have certain colors at certain times. There are recommendations, but nothing set in stone.

Have the colors that will make you happy - that's the only rule!
Reply:Choose the colors that make you happy!! Sounds like you have some great ideas!
Reply:I think those are lovely colors, but to make it more autumn themed I would add a gold color of some sort.
Reply:Typically people would use more autumny colors, but the most important thing to consider is that it is your wedding and you can do whatever you want! Congrats :-)
Reply:Go for it! I don't think weddings need to reflect the season you're getting married in. People get way too caught up in that.

And by the way, those are lovely colors.
Reply:I think that the whole color and season thing is really outdated and you should just do what you want. I know lots of girls getting married in summer who uses black or brown. This is your day, do what you want to do.
Reply:Any colors you want will be beautiful!
Reply:any color you want if you wanted your wedding to tie into the fall time of year they say go for rich colors like red orange and browns
Reply:I think that it's YOUR wedding and you can do ANYTHING you want with it. My wedding was in November and my colors were Pale Pink. BEAUTIFUL! Good Luck!
Reply:it is your wedding choose the colors that you want. The "feel" of the wedding/reception depends on how you use the colors not necessarily what colors you use
Reply:Choose the colors you want! There's no etiquette rule that says fall weddings require fall colors.
Reply:I say those are nice colors for that time of year.

What colors would you choose for a september wedding?

I like the combination of maybe a brown, pale pink, what would go with those? Or a brown and cornflower which is a blue green color its really pretty.

What colors would you choose for a september wedding?
Both of your choices would be lovely in September (My favorite month). You could also use gold as a accent color on both of those too. That would give the empression of a fall wedding. Beautiful! Good luck and congrats!! ?
Reply:champagne
Reply:Usually Fall Colors go over well. if you are thinking brown, make it a soft pastel color, or if you want a cornflower which is a beautiful color, use mabe softer shades of lavender, pink, to like enhance it or that would enhance the shade of white your dress is.
Reply:i love the brown idea, but i don't know about the pale pink. maybe go with like a soft orange.
Reply:I'm getting married this September. I am wearing a Champagne color wedding dress. My bridesmaids are wearing a wine dress. I accented all of that with a little bit of gold. Gold lettering invitations were sent out. My favors are wrapped in wine and gold. Everything looks very elegant. Happy planning!
Reply:Why not all three, brown with accents of cornflower and pink, I think those are lovely colors and it shouldn't matter what the month is just pick the colors you like!!

Good luck!
Reply:My wedding is in September and we chose Blue for the bridesmaids, Azalea for the jr bridesmaids and bright yellow as an accent color. Sounds loud doesn't it?
Reply:you could do a pale blue or green with these two colors. I would definetely stick with the pale colors if you have a pale pink.
Reply:I think either of them will do. It does not matter what time of year you want to do your wedding and what colors you want to do. I like both of the colors, I think they will look nice together. I have seen Sapphire blue done for Sept ( since that is the birth stone for that month) and I have seen yellow and oranges. It really does not make a difference, choose what you like and what you think is best.

For either color combination, you can go to this place

http://www.exclusivelyweddings.com/dynam...

And find pleny of stuff to match, from invitations to toasting flutes.
Reply:Go for the nearest blue color that you like anyways, sept is saphire month!

If you are in need of wedding souvenir you can visit the ff link:

We are offering souvenirs based on your motif and preferences at a very affordable cost for you.
Reply:I would do brown, russet, golds, champagne, olive green. These are fall colors and would look just gorgeous.
Reply:I like the cornflower idea and brown, but blue is my favorite color. Darker colors are better for a wedding in the fall.
Reply:We're going with gold and light blue. My best friend is using white and orange.
Reply:brown and pink or broen and cornflower which is a shade of blue they woudl both look beautiful. cornflour was going to be my wedding colors but we changed it to lavender. but i love your choice of colors.
Reply:Gold is a pretty september color.

There's several potential problems with this stuff besides the glycerin. First off the list of optional colorants include several that either are animal sourced or could be animal sourced, there's also a stearate listed that can be animal based.

A relatively new problem could be all those essential oil extracts they list. Some companies have started using animal based enzymes to increase production of their essences%26lt;sigh%26gt;.
Reply:They are stretching he organic Quite a bit. It appears vegan though

Organic implies that it comes form life.

IT is not the same as 'All natural"

Ocean water is all natural, but drink it every day and you will die. Some of these chemicals scare me. TThe big ones are DPG (Dipotassium Glyc...) and Potassium borate.

Look them up. you may stop using it
Reply:Nope. I saw glycerin in the ingredients, and it is an animal product, made from fat.
Reply:Yes. It has no animal products.

I have heard vague responses from vegan friends of yellow #5, but i never even heard of an info source to check.

i think its ok. (ok=vegan)

Here is my first poem of the day. Please comment??? This poem is copywrited to Steve Enrici 2007?

love

Her eyes stared back at me, a cornflower blue,

Porcelain skin, slick from the sweat, like morning dew.

Legs are as perfect as any long distance runner,

When you put it all together, a perfect stunner.

When we make love, it's kind of like poetry,

The rhythyn, the meter, a perfect soliloquy.

She wears me out, with her youth and pace,

There is no place I'd rather be, lost in her lace.

After a rest and some Kristal champaign,

like two virgin teens, our lust gone insane.

I'd rather be here, in her arms, us together,

Wild horses couldn't drag me away with a tether.

A woman is like something wild and free,

not to be kept in a chamber, under lock and a key.

A woman is best when she knows she has love,

By a man who will trust her, to return like a dove.

But I could be happy, never leaving this place,

Joyfully playing and flailing and kissing her face.

Nothing could bring me, any more joy than this,

As she rises in the morning, on my lips a sweet kiss.

Here is my first poem of the day. Please comment??? This poem is copywrited to Steve Enrici 2007?
You actually know something about meter! What a relief! However, many of the rhymes are forced (ex: "lost in her lace") and there are some juvenile expressions and cliches: "it's kind of like," "wild horses couldn't drag me away," "under lock and key," among others. However, I love the expression "joyfully playing and flailing," certainly a picture of (very) young people enjoying sex.
Reply:You are great at ryming but it lacks soul. It doesn't move me or make me want to remember it.
Reply:Woop oop oop oop. I`m trying to think but I just keep getting deleted.
Reply:Very very forced. Take heed from what others say here and write with more soul please if you want us to take this as seriously as you would like us to.

The cloning of humans is on most of the lists of things to worry about from science, along with behavior control, genetic engineering, and transplanted heads, but we should also add computer poetry.
Reply:It is erotical poetry, or maybe just erotica. I agree with Polly, it does lack soul. You are just leading us through the ..........events that occured. It is pretty but i wasn't touched really. You've got the talent though.....!
Reply:Ohhhh!!!! Holy Mary and Jesus!!!! What a poem...I can't...explain it, no words can describe this poem, beautiful, sensational, captivating, sensual, tempting, intense...and so on.

OH my undercover poet, absolutely wonderful writing.

Sorry I can't tell you this with property 'cause I'm spanish speaker, but I can feel the sound and picture of the words and their suppose meaning. I think you should try to be less romantic and more modern in the writing. And less rythm... Go ahead, keep working hard, it's the only thing that will take out the genius that lay on you.

Reply:The rhyme is okay, but it isn't about love, it's about sex.
Reply:It's quite beautiful, well done.

Not a lot left to say apart from...Mind your spelling...

If you want to infer that you know something about "Champagne", ya gotta at least spell it correctly...

On that note, Kristal is over rated. Veuve Clicquot is a cheaper and far superior champagne, though it could be difficult working that into a rhyming scheme...!

Write as much as you can while this feeling lasts. It's the most beautiful form of inspiration...

And don't forget to simply do nothing, and enjoy just "being".

D...

ps. Show her, or better yet, read it aloud to her...
Reply:I love it. I found when writing about love, you've gotta be careful. You use too many cliches, and so do I. In fact, I don't know any writer who doesn't use them. Anyway, try to stay away from them. Other then that, beautiful poem. The imagery is amazing. Don't let the egotistical trolls get you down!

So..New Wedding date...101 new ideas.?

We pushed our wedding back to April 2008. No problems, except monetary problems. What I'm wondering is, I'm still trying to find pretty cheap bridesmaid dresses. And I don't know what dress I want. If 4 months ahead is when I should buy dresses, that will be christmas time so is it smarter to buy like 6 months ahead or wait and do like 3 months? Any and all ideas for nice small weddings appreciated. I like burnt orange or a bright blue like david bridal's cornflower blue. I'm not good at making choices....but maybe bcause I haven't heard anything just right for me. Any useful help is wonderful. I will try to give otu good reviews for all nice comments and will be picking best answer. Thanks all!

So..New Wedding date...101 new ideas.?
First off your wedding, your choices. Stand up for them now, because there will be plenty of people trying to put you down...it just is that way with weddings.

I am a beauty consultant and a lot of my clients order their make up and products online. I have the name of the company if you want.

Start with a wedding magazine, they have great tips and timelines to go by. Be confident and be prepared, weddings aren't easy, but worth the work.

Go to overstock.com for bridemaids dresses and have them altered. Search classified for bridal gowns, used/new, cheap. You may have to have it dyed the color you want though, but that's cheaper than buying it new.

Good luck
Reply:The bridesmaids dresses will be available 4 months in advanced, so you should buy them at that time. Stick up for your decisions, this is your wedding!!!
Reply:how much is cheap??
Reply:I love the idea that I first saw at theknot.com. Bride doesn't worry with picking the bridesmaids' dresses. She remembers that the dresses do not need to be identical. Bride just selects the color. Bride shows the color to the bridesmaids. Bridesmaids then go out and select their own dresses.

Each girl has found a dress flattering to her, at a price she can afford. Bride pulls the look together with flowers and maybe pashminas. Eliminates a lot of stress.

Go check out theknot.com for ideas. They have some great photos there. Good luck to you.
Reply:I had a small wedding also and we did it fairly cheap=i bought my dress at Davids Bridal during their $99 days sale. With my bridesmaids i choose a color and then let them pick there style. Davids separates are a great choice and are under $200. Also, for favors we did mints on all the tables that said something like "Thanks for coming...." ? After all was said and done we spent like 7000. Just remeber that there are lots of things that you can cut out, like linen table clothes (will anyone notice plastic?) Stuff like that. When making choices, think about weddings you have gone to-what do you remember about the wedding-the centerpieces or the best mans speech-you can't buy memories!!
Reply:You should do what you love. My reccomendation for bridesmaid dresses is to leave that up to the bridesmaids and save alot of hassle. So many brides are on here with "so and so hasn't ordered or dress three weeks before...what to do?". It is also a plus because they are more comfortable, are more likely to wear the dress again, and you don't have to do the awkward "so how much can you afford" convo.

You can get pretty specifc for instance tell your BMs that you would like cornflower blue dresses, floor length. (you can always retain veto power if you are worried they will choose something really inappropriate) They can find whatever is in their price range and it will show off their personalities. I've seen so many pictures where the brides take this road and I prefer them alot more to the carbon copy bridesmaids.
Reply:Well, first off, I would simply choose the color Palette and then let my bridesmaids choose their own dresses.

When I got married that is what I did, and my moh was SOOOO happy. She got to wear a black dress that she loved and I was happy not to have to worry about the stress.

Joke! Worth atleast a giggle and a half!!!?

With a puzzled look on his face an American Indian boy asked,

"Say, mom, why is my bigger brother named Mighty Storm?"

She told him, "Because he was conceived during a mighty storm."

Then he asked, "Why is my sister named Cornflower?"

She replied, "Well, your father and I were in a cornfield when

we made her."

"And why is my other sister called Moonchild?"

"We were watching the moon landing while she was conceived.",

She explained. The Mother Indian paused for a moment then

asked her son "Tell me, Torn Rubber, why are you so curious?"

Decorating ideas...i just bought new furniture and i want to put up window treatments that will look good?

with the new furniture. I have 8 foot ceilings, two windows to decorate and one of the windows is in the center of the wall, but the other window is not centered. The way my livingroom is layed out, to me, makes it very difficult to arrange furnature. Because I rent, there isn't much I can do about that. My husband is really into wolves so we have several pictures and figurines scattered through out the room, the new furniture is a solid microfiber blue (a little darker than country or cornflower type blue). I dont really know what style to call my living room, it's not country or retro...it's more "outdoors-y" i want that feel through out my whole house...so, with all that rambling...I need to figure out great window treatments and maybe area rug ideas to "pull the room together"...any ideas, websites, or pics would be greatly appreciated!!!

Decorating ideas...i just bought new furniture and i want to put up window treatments that will look good?
Since you have an "outdoorsy" look going, you could go a couple of ways with the window treatments. I would consider a blue plaid or something with a light brown in drapes/curtains. The blue to go with your already blue furniture, or the brown being a neutral and a color found in nature.

Here is a nice blue plaid from Country Curtains:

http://www.countrycurtains.com/shopping/...

These tab top curtains come in blue/brown:

http://www5.jcpenney.com/jcp/ProductsHOM...

Or, if you don't like curtains, you could try woven shades which are very natural:

http://www5.jcpenney.com/jcp/ProductsHOM...
Reply:Did your couch come with accent pillows? What colors are in those? Is there a color in the accent pillows that is the same as one of the colors in any of the wolf pictures? By pulling the color for the curtains out of thngs that are in the room you will help pull everything together. Same thing goes for the area rug.

Will seeds get confused or just grow?

I live in a tropical climate and would like to take some garden seeds, poppies, cornflower, daffy bulbs etc, to brighten up my garden. In the U.K. we sow seeds in spring, if I sow seeds at any time of year in a tropical climate will they get confused or will they germinate anyway?

Will seeds get confused or just grow?
You sowed seeds in the springtime in UK because that was when the soil had warmed to allow the seeds to propagate and they would have the spring and summer to establish themselves during the warm weather.

In a tropical climate, you really don't have to worry about the season you plant, as the seasons are usually so similar, and the ground is already warm.

Sow all the seeds you want and whenever you want, as they'll probably do fabulously well if they can handle the heat of your new tropical climate.
Reply:They will germinate and usually tropical seeds takes about 2 to 3 weeks. BIg seeds need to soak.

http://pjnursery.cblinkenterprise.com
Reply:Wills mummy said if he keeps eating his greens he will grow up to a big strong man like Mr Will.
Reply:Many factors govern what make,s germinate and grow. Some will aclimate after one season and have a longer growing life to maturity.P.S. only people get confused dear.
Reply:They will germinate but may not flower properly as some plants need a cold snap to trigger the flowering mechanism. Others will not tolerate the heat or reduced day light hours tropical countries have. It is always worth a try, but check that none of the seeds you intend to plant are classified as invasive by your country's department of agriculture.

What to do with wood paneling in breakfast nook?

I am in the process of trying to figure out my kitchen and breakfast nook remodel for my home. I have decided on a French Country look for the kitchen.....based upon some great Waverly sunflower fabric.....with a cornflower blue background.....and hints of greens and reds with the of course yellow sunflowers........i am thinking of painting the kitchen walls a buttery yellow.....and the cabinets possibly a sand or blue color.......i have run into a dilemma with my attached breakfast nook.........the room is wall to wall wood paneling.....not the cheap stuff.......but still wood paneling.....any suggestions as to colors i should use....and also how to handle the wood paneling.......paint it, pickle it, or leave it?

thanks for the help!

:-)

What to do with wood paneling in breakfast nook?
I would paint the wood french country blue, or a sand color to match your cabinets, you could also do yellow, or just a neutral tan with a yellow trim... good luck mary
Reply:Why not paint it half way up %26amp; put a boarder between the paint %26amp; paneling. (use KILZ on the bottom before you paint its a primer %26amp; paint will stick easier)
Reply:well i'm sure the paneling has a finish over it so u would have to strip it to work on it so i would remove it and save it and reuse it as a wains-coat at 32" high with a chair rail cap.........

Is it safe to wallpaper a bathroom???? Will it only get ruined with moisture?

I want to do a cloud design in my blue bathroom the kids use, when I picked colors I didn't know that the toilet and sink were going to come in a robin's egg blue, the tub and surround are like a cornflower blue, and the vanity top is like a blue/gray marble. This is our first house, modular, no one told me these things, I thought I was just picking a vanity top color. How do I bring all these different hues together without painting the walls white? I need a cheap way, house is only 2 yrs old %26amp; hubby refuses to rip apart the bath. Anyone had a similar problem? HELP!

Is it safe to wallpaper a bathroom???? Will it only get ruined with moisture?
My bathroom wallpaper lasted forever - till I got sick of it and ripped it down. What would be easier though is to paint your bathroom a very pale blue that doesn't fight any of the other blues. Buy a sea sponge at the craft store and practice making clouds! I did it when my daughter was small and it was beautiful. You can add touches of pink or yellow very lightly to the bottom of your clouds too. Make sure you squeeze most of the white paint out of the sponge, you want a light touch. Hope it all works out. It is hard to wallpaper around a toilet, remember that.
Reply:Thanks for the vote Lisa. Wish I was there to help you! Report It
Reply:You'll need to sand the walls to remove the textured surface first. Then be sure and seal the drywall with a wallpaper sealant. If you don't the wallpaper sticks to the drywall paper and will make an extremely difficult 2nd go around when re-papering later. Do not use just the prepasted paper. Be sure and add a paste that is diluted 50/50 with water. Follow wallpaper directions and you should be in good shape. Around the tub you might want to apply a small bead of Dap to keep it from potentially pealing back. Good luck.
Reply:We have wallpapered the bathrooms years ago and they get steamy and the paper is tight as always. Go for it. All your plans sound great. I can imagine, the picture is beautiful.~~~Jill
Reply:wall paper is a bad i dead for a bathroom. to get a cloud effect paint the walls blue, let then dry and then with a sea sponge dad in do paint take off the ecces apply to the wall and ther you go , you got a cloud effect. i did that for my sisters bay's room and it looks totally awsome !
Reply:Like the idea of bringing in wallpaper to bring the colors together. Bathrooms are the perfect place for wallpaper. Easy to clean and it will hold up well.
Reply:Although paper comes pre-pasted do yourself a favor and still paste it. Most important make sure you size your walls 1st. Good Luck
Reply:You can wallpaper a bathroom - but I wouldn't do it again if someone offered to pay for it for me! After a while, steam from lovely hot showers will loosen the paper (sooner if you weren't meticulous about hanging it, later no matter how careful you were!) Try a base of a creamy beige, the sponge the varying shades in your bathroom over that - I did a similar treatment in my lower level bath, using a sandy base, and sponging it with pale blue, green and pink. Got a very nice ocean-beachy feel, with no chance of peeling or mold!

Regarding the tv show Brothers & Sisters, why do the main characters always wear muted/neutral colors?

I just started watching the show over the last couple of months, but I've noticed the members of the main family seldom wear colorful clothing. Usually dark/muted colors, maybe an occasional pale lavendar or cornflower blue. The mom wore a red sweater once, but only during a short sequence when she talked about losing her virginity. Anyone else notice this? Any theories?

Art/wall decor for teen bedroom?

My room was recently re-painted. The walls are a tan color with one accent wall that is a cornflower/periwinkle blue. I would like some ideas on cheap DIY ideas for my walls. Something like cutting a picture in half or thirds and putting it on picture frames in a sequence. Pictures of the craft would be great just so I can get a feel of what it looks like.

Go buy 3 or 4 cheap frames, and while you are there get some scrap booking paper. Frame them and wallah cheap easy art, and you can change it around as you wish!

What else do you use flowers for in a wedding?

I am looking to keep our wedding budget low. I have recently decided to make the bouquets and centerpieces for my wedding, but what else do you use flowers for? Also, my colors are cornflower blue and clover green; what types of flowers do you recommend for those colors?

What else do you use flowers for in a wedding?
Use flowers for the bouquets. You will also need boutonnieres and corsages for the bridal party and honored guests. As far as centerpieces go, you can save a lot by cutting down on flowers there. Instead of elaborate floral arrangements, try floating blooms in rose bowls or placing a few colorful stems in a vase and surrounding it with votive. It will look beautiful and will be more interesting than a basic floral centerpiece.

As far as your colors go, green and blue hydrangeas would be gorgeous. However, depending on the season they could be a little on the pricey side. If you aren't using a ton of them though (they are very full so you wouldn't need to) it would be doable.

They also have light green roses that would be pretty with the blue hydrangeas.

Another pretty blue flower is delphinium, but I am not sure how delicate it is once picked.

Good luck!
Reply:Flowers are good all over the place. If you're getting married by a justice of the peace, put a bouquet on each side of the jp %26amp; couple. In other words, if I were standing at a little distance behind you, I'd see the bouquets on each side. All you need is 2. Ask someone to take the bouquets after the ceremony. If you're having it in church put a bouquet at each pew you know will be occupied, + others at the other spots you already know. Those flowers will adorn the tables at the reception. Use mostly low arrangements at the bride %26amp; groom's table--people will be stopping by. Add glamour with a couple of large clear/light colored candles where they are not likely to get knocked over--center front froma guest point of view. Green dyed carnations + ? Best of luck!
Reply:To cover all bad events, just like pollution and etc

And for increasing the ease atmosphere

for giving good smell of each other and etc
Reply:the boutonnieres for all the men in the wedding party including the groom, best man ushers and also father of the bride and groom and any grandfathers of the bride or groom.also if there is a flower girl it can be a small bouquet or rose petals in a small basket.i recommend fake ones made of fabric.you can go to a craft store or shop on line for fake silk flowers.they are less expensive beautiful and will last forever.also corsages for the mothers of bride and the groom and any grandmothers of the bride or groom.also a boutonniere for the ring bearer if you have one.i can not help with the types of flowers but look in a seed catalog or magazine that sells flowers to find the best selection and the names.congratulations and good luck.
Reply:Most people have boutonnieres for the guys- those need flowers. Most people have corsages for the Moms, Grandmas etc

Some people have "alter arrangements" for wherever the ceremony takes place. Some people have fresh flowers in their pew bows/arrangements. Some people have fresh flowers on their cake. Some people have fresh flower arrangements by the guest book, But those are all optional. You could either not do those arrangements or do something besides fresh flowers.

For your colors, definitely the green can be greenery. Not sure for the cornflower blue though- I'm sure you can find something pretty if you just go to a floral shop and start looking.

Good luck!
Reply:how to use flowers:

~ decorations around the room (like in random vases perhaps at each end of the top table)

~ in the mens pockets

~ at the end of the pews if it's a church wedding or fastened to the seats

~ can sometimes be used for hair decoration

types of flowers:

~ keep the green in the leaves rather than trying to find a flower in this colour!!

~ if you don't like any blue flowers use blue in the ribbons tying the flowers together

~ if you are doing the two ideas above stick to white flowers - you don't want it looking like a circus!!

here are some blue flowers:

~ hyacinth

~ delphiniums

~ hydrangea

~ iris

hope this helps....have a lovely wedding xx
Reply:Wow, you've already got some great advice!

If you're having a buffet, don't forget the centerpiece for that. I've found that anything under 30" tall looks out of scale. You can't realistically go too tall.

Good luck!
Reply:Groom, Best man, ushers, ring bearer, fathers wear wear boutonnieres. Mothers wear corsages. Flower girl needs petals to throw. Some place flowers on the first several rows of seating to signify special seating for friends and family. Any white flower can be colored to the shades you want for you wedding. You can do this at home with some trial and error. Put food dye in water and put the stem of the flower in. Water will be drawn up and the flower will turn the color of the dye. Daisies and carnations work best for this.
Reply:the flower girl usually drops petals down the aisle .. you need each bridesmaid to hold a bouquet and yourself .. then groomsmen usually have a flower in their suit pocket .. centerpieces can be flowers .. you can also use them to decorate the altar or whatever you are getting married on

i would go to your florist and have them help you pick out the flowers .. they can match flowers to any colors you need

What color will go with that? I have from DavidsBridal.com. Cornflower, and Champange Dresses.

I need a color to mix in for like my flowers and accent pieces also. Would like a yellow, orange go? (light color maybe)

HELP?

Thanks

I am picking wedding colors for my beach wedding, I have blue and tan (sky, sand) I need an accent (sun),?
A green or a pink would look really great with cornflower and champagne. Maybe like a sea foam green or a baby pink.
Reply:Oh absolutely - think of a beautiful tropical sunset - red-orange sun against the pale turquoise sky running right up to the tan sand - and accents of green (palms) and mauve (distant clouds) and even a bit of "midnight blue" (night sky creeping in)

Or look at all those orange tropical flowers - yeah oranges and reds would be really pretty!
Reply:OMG - SUN=Yellow - answered by a three year old.
Reply:Yes, white. Blue and tan are so beautiful, you do not want to drown them out.
Reply:go with white like the surf
Reply:I agree that the yellows available are too close to the champagne to work as a separate accent color. Also, the blue is a bit too bright to really work with another pastel.

I think the color that David's Bridal calls "Palm Beach Coral" would be a great accent to the blue, and definitely speaks to the beach theme.
Reply:Yellow and orange were the first colors to pop into my head. Just make sure they compliment each other.
Reply:First off... Congratulations on getting married! Best wishes!

Secondly... Cornflower %26amp; Champange are beautiful colors. Some accent colors could be:

? Coral

? Peach-orange

? Pink-orange

? Salmon

? Sandy Brown
Reply:a salmon pink--you do not want too pastel a color--the salmon pink comes in flowers and it is a true medium color reminding one of sunsets, sun rising and goes perfect with the light neutral colors you have all ready selected
Reply:coral , orange, maybe even yellow would look nice.
Reply:why not gold..? i think that would look really nice.

i think gold, tan and a baby blue color would look amazing together!
Reply:I like the salmon color others have suggested (like a hibiscus maybe?) I also like a green color - like sand dune grass or palm leaves depending on the shades of tan and cornflower (sorry, I didn't go to the David's Bridal site to check).

Think about the kinds of flowers/centerpieces you want and go from there.
Reply:salmon or soft peach. It will look stunning.
Reply:black for death and night
Reply:use white because you don't want too many colors going on. I think the cornflower and champange nicely compliment each other and anything but white will take away from those colors. These are your main colors right? You don't want an accent color to over-power them and yellow or organe would do just that. White is nice and crisp and can represent the sruft, as someone already stated...or the clouds in the sky. I am sure that your florist will have great ideas to intigrate some splashes of beach-y color into your flowers.

Good luck!
Reply:I think orange would look awesome with blue %26amp; champagne. It would really "pop"!

http://www.budget-bride.com/1782.htm
Reply:Same theme here... my colors are pink, brown, and accent is white..

but you could go with a light yellow..
Reply:Maybe a salmon or coral color? Something that pops out at you, it could represent the sunset or even a flower. You definitely need a stronger color. The yellow would look good with the blue, but the sand color already has a hint of yellow in it so they might just wash each other out.

Do artichokes come back year after year (in the garden!)?

We were given a free packet of cornflower seeds which my husband happily scatter-sowed in our flowerbeds. Alarmingly large plants have materialised - and they're artichokes! We'll eat them this year but are wondering what will happen if we transplant them to the vegetable patch in the autumn? Will they come back next year or should we just dig them up later in the year and put them in the compost?

Do artichokes come back year after year (in the garden!)?
So long as the plant does not freeze then yes, they will return. Artichokes are usually grown near the coast here in California because it seldom freezes near the coast.

Watch out for aphids.

Additonally if you do not cut them to eat, they will bloom in to a large purple flower.
Reply:They should come back, although you can get annual artichokes I have only seen them available one place so doubt yours are.
Reply:both the globe artichoke and Jerusalem artichokes will come every year.
Reply:artichokes will continue to come back year after year. There are many varieties, the most common or the ones you see in the store are Globe. Most are in peak production from 3-8 years but some can produce for 10 or more years

Which of these bridesmaid dresses will look the best with my wedding dress? :)?

PLEASE READ THESE DETAIILS!!!

ALL OF THE BRIDESMAID DRESSES WILL BE BLUE NO MATTER WHICH DRESS WE CHOOSE. IF IT IS TWO-TONED, WE WILL USE A CORNFLOWER BLUE FOR THE DRESS AND A LIGHTER BLUE FOR THE SASH OR BOW.

ALL OF THE LONG DRESSES WILL BE CUT TO STOP RIGHT BELOW THE KNEE. NONE WILL BE LONG LIKE IN THE PICTURES.

ARE THERE TWO THAT WOULD LOOK GOOD TOGETHER?

Thank you! :)

Which of these bridesmaid dresses will look the best with my wedding dress? :)?
Personally, I don't like the idea of your bridesmaids going strapless if you have straps (even if yours are really small and dainty). Based on that, I would suggest the orange "overlay with beading" one. As a plus, it also repeats the open front style of your dress.
Reply:the lighter green one is the nicest design - go for that one!!!
Reply:I think the blue one with the thing tied around the waist is cute. I think its the second one. I like the orange also. Those should go nicely!
Reply:I have to be totally honest with you...I am not a fan of strapless dresses, but I love halter tops and sparkles...My absolute FAV is the pink one.
Reply:i personally like this one best:

FOREVER-Ruschedupperbuttonsdownside.jp...

it matches your dress (if that wedding dress was yours) and is pretty while still being simple so it won't draw attention away from you.
Reply:I tink that the green dresses will look the best with you dress
Reply:I think this dress FOREVER-StraplessTieatEmpireWaist (aka the purple ones) would make a very beautiful dress. Expecially if you are going to do a two tone blue combination.
Reply:the short one with the sash, most other ones were to busy with your dress in my opinion, and with it already being short, it would save on alterations!
Reply:Forever Ruschedupper. Those are very neat and would look very nice at a wedding.
Reply:the organza overlay/orange dress would look great....my 2nd choice would be the blue set.
Reply:i like the style of the orange one. the strapless ones are nice too. either the orange or the blue strapless, in my opinion. of course, they're all gorgeous
Reply:i like the organza overlay one. i believe in the pic it looks peachy orange. it is cute and would match the upper style of the brides gown a little better. plus the wearer will probably be able to use the dress/gown for other things. if its one thing i hate is a bridesmaids dress in the closet that i spent hard money for and can only wear it once. sometimes you don't even want to wear it that one time. good luck. it mostly depends on what you think you like and the girls agree too. congratulations
Reply:I think the orange one looks best.
Reply:They are all beautiful, personally I like the

FOREVER-Ruschedupper...

I am sure whichever 1 u choose will look great. congrats.
Reply:i like the style of the orange dress. i'm assuming that the white dress is your wedding dress so i think that the style goes great with it.
Reply:i think the dark purple, i think the ones will rhinestones or whatever is too much for a bridesmaid dress, it should all be on you!! the bow does just enough.. it would be especially pretty for a summer wedding and it looks like it will fit good on all shapes!!

good luck and congrulations=]
Reply:I think you should go with the blue steapless tie, as long as the dresses doesn't clash with the flowers you have chosen. Do the dresses match the groom-mens attire. You could go with matching vests. Anyway it's your day chose what you like not what your attendents want. Good luck and best wishes
Reply:the style halter with beading i feel is the one that will look best with your dress...

the orange style seemed to sexy for a brides maid,.. sorry but that was first impression i got.

the purple seemed to little girl style....cute on lil ones...but past 12 yrs would look not right...i thought...and if you had women as maids that is why i thought no...

but the light green was ok, but in shorter length i did not see it as nice as if long...

so that's why i say the beaded one,

it went well next to your dress style, and i can see it looking better shorter and in cornflower blue with sash.

congratulations Hun to you both on you big day, and remember to choose what you like its your day not ours :)

hope all goes well!
Reply:i like the ones that are in green and pink. (not suggesting the color but the style)

congratulations! ^^
Reply:Bride to be, These are all very beautiful dresses, along with the dress you have chosen. I think one thing you need to keep in mind is not just what will look good with your dress, but will the attendants look good in it as well. Some of these dresses might not work if the attendants a very busty or not have so much. So you need to take your attendants and try on dresses that are similar too these before you make up your mind on the style, because what will look good on one will be a disaster for another. Good luck on your choosing and think will it fit the body of my girls?
Reply:http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j72/sw...

this one looks fab and elegant. Hope you make the right choice and have a great time. ;)
Reply:The green is the best because it has the most movement in it. The bridemaids should shine and sparkle to. Which will make you and your wedding shine even more.God bless you and your future husband!
Reply:The FOREVER-StraplessTie will do. Since it already below the knee you want not have to cut it.

Go to
Reply:The lighter green dress I like the best and the darker green I like second. Both of the dresses have material that complements the wedding dress.
Reply:green dresses for me too. lovely!
Reply:Rusched upper w/ buttons down sides is the winner. I don't see why you'd mess with the Organza Overlay or Halter with Beads, unless the wedding was part of a 1970s vitamin commercial.

Strapless Tieat Empire Waist is cute, but doesn't leave much room for flaws. If you all happen to be models, go for it.

Since most of us aren't, though, stick with Rusched Upper w/ buttons down side, and a close second of rusched upper vertical then horizontal.
Reply:Who's gonna look at YOU and THEN the bridesmaids? That would be like trying to get cars to match on a freeway.

But to answer your question, who is the lady in the orange, do you know her? What is her name? I like her.
Reply:I like the cut and style of the orange one. I think it will look real pretty in blue.
Reply:The light green one is really pretty.
Reply:love the ones shown in green

Do NOT dye them

My Yorkie's eyes are always overglowing with black goop...?

We've used the vet's prescription dog eye cleaner thing, we've used black and chamomile tea, water, antibiotics (it got a bit better afterwards but it's bad again) and now we're using cornflower water.

I've heard adding apple cider vinegar to the dog's water can help.

Any suggestions?

My Yorkie's eyes are always overglowing with black goop...?
a little black 'gloop' at the corner of the eye is OK. however the amount is very important. if it is making the ski wet, this will really irritate the skin as tears are quite irritant on skin.

there are many different reasons why too much discharge is produced.

1/ there may be irritation to the conjunctiva - this can be due to dusts, chemicals, or mild infections of the tissues around the eye

2/ the tear glands of the eye may not work properly, this means the eye itself is a little too dry, when this happens the eye is chronically irritated and the mucus glands over work making thick sticky discharge

now simply cleaning the gloop away is an important part of the treatment.

however these underlying probs need to be checked for.

go you your vet, i would first test the tear production (with a Schirmer tear test) then check for any corneal ulcer (with a fluorescein stain test).

followed with a full opthalmic exan

medication may be required. but trust your vet if they say it is normal, just clean the eye well
Reply:my Vet tells me to make sure that i keep the hair shaven around the eyes , but there is No groomer that will touch my dogs since his eyes are so bad . i have tried everything even Medication , i don't know what else to do Report It
Reply:If you have been to your vet more than once and there is still an issue time to look for a new vet. my cat had a similar problem and the vet gave me eyedrops, its a pain in the butt to give but well worth it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you for care or it will come back!

I need pictures of wedding cakes with blue flowers!?

My wedding colors are Cornflower Blue, Champagne, and Ivory. I'd prefer the flowers to be real, but if that doesn't happen, I won't be heartbroken.

I need pictures of wedding cakes with blue flowers!?
Have you tried www.theknot.com?

or type in blue flower wedding cake in google's search engine. I came up with the couple of images added below in seconds.

Also, go to your local library- you can find books there with cakes, cake making, and photos. JoAnn fabrics and Michael's craft stores often have cake decorating books available too.
Reply:We are using blue hydrangeas on our cake. I never found a cake that I liked that had blue flowers on them, however, I found a cake that I liked that had real flowers on it, and asked the florist if she thought she would be able to make it like that using "our flowers". So my advice is to find the cake that you like, and check with the florist to see if they could make it happen with your flower choices.
Reply:What flowers are you using for the bridal party? I'll update if you can tell me. I searched for wedding cakes with blue flowers but didn't come up with much.

Color Scheme Dilemma!?

All right, I'm lost.

I've decided to overhaul my old color scheme for a new one.

The old color scheme: deep reds, earthy greens, warm golds, and rustic oranges.

The new color scheme: deep, cool browns, fuchsias, cornflower blues, and maybe a splash or two of apple green for an accent.

After saving tons of photos from over the web, I've nailed down the new color scheme and absolutely love it. But I've run into a big problem:

I have a very nicely framed, old movie poster that's sentimental to me. It was a centerpiece in my one room apartment and went PERFECTLY with the old color scheme. I love this poster, but now it's going to stick out like a sore thumb!

How can I make this work? The picture is done in blacks, browns, golds, and warm yellows. For a photo of it, see here: http://www.geocities.com/j_nada/carp/mot...

Help!

Color Scheme Dilemma!?
Could it be repurposed to another room where it will blend better, or at least relocated to a section of wall where it won't receive as much attention?

Another idea would be to get an artwork light with a bulb or gel in one of your colors to cast a tint onto the poster.
Reply:The poster seems to be primarily gold and brown. You are still using brown shades in your new color scheme so I don't see it being an issue. Yes, you are getting away from the gold but I think a creative person as yourself can make it work. Obviously, by collecting the photos from the web, you have the decorating bug in you and you know what looks good. If you hang this poster on a wall that is not the focal point of your room, I think it will look great. Since this poster has sentimental value to you, you should hang it and enjoy it.
Reply:Perhaps if you re-matted it in something that went with both the image and the color scheme of the room it would work.

Betta Disease?

Water quality is good, no problems there. Temperatue is a bit cool, but all my other bettas are thriving at the same temperature and up until now Leviathan has been too.

He's gotten a tiny hole in his one fin, thought it might somehow be fin rot or bacteria so I treated that. He's since gotta a few more tiny pin holes and his fins look thinner is really the best way to describe it. His one ray has always been thinner/discolored. He was free from a breeder for that reason (he was to be culled). I know his spawn so I know that is should be royal blue and now he's looking more cornflower blue and there is no way he can genetically be turning that color.

Positive, helpful thoughts only please.

Betta Disease?
colours will change with age, and pin holes are signs that he's blowing his fin webbing from flaring too much. make sure he's not in permanent sight of other bettas.

keep water quality good and food varied and see how he progresses.

Flowers for the bridemaids?

This is the style of the dress (not the exact one) http://davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_deta...

In canary yellow, cornflower blue, and rose petal--- 3 different colors for the three bridemaids.

I was originally going to have pastel bouquets (b/c of the great suggestion from Darlene mouse)-- like the ones in this link http://www.wedideas.com/RoundPastels.htm

but my bridesmaid want the flowers to stand out more with brighter shades like hot pink, electric blue, and a bright yellow. Kind of like this picture but hot pink gerbera daisies, blue hydrangeas/or some other flower-- and yellow roses/or tigerlillies.

http://floristblogs.com/blogs/nunans/Win...

I'm not sure if it would look good-- but i want them to decide- would it look bad--

Also if you have pictures of bouquets with the bright colors that would really help.--- Doesn't have to be those specific flowers-- I just want to see how

Flowers for the bridemaids?
i think the first picture of the bouquet is nicer than the brighter. I think the best bet is to just have one of the colours stand out in the bouquet

what about something like these pics, only with some yellow flowers and more cream flowers than pink and blue?

http://www.viviano.com/images/prodshots/...

http://www.floristexpress.net/images/pro...

another idea is to have each bridesmaid hold a bouquet with all colours almost exatlcy the same colour as their dress only just one shade off, (it works) like these pics

http://www.skilesphotography.com/blog/wp...

http://www.weddingbee.com/wp-content/upl...

Alternatively they could swap bouquets?

yelow dress pink flowers

pink dress blue flowers

Blue dress yellow flowers
Reply:i think that if you were to do brighter flowers, it would be too busy, but if you were to do one uniform color, one that would go with all the dresses, it would look ok. i'm all for bright colors, but you also don't want it to look like it's all been thrown together. maybe one color of a bright flower, and then the same color of another flower in a more pastel shade. if you did that, like having yellow flowers for the girl with the yellow dress, etc., and then use a bright ribbo in the same color, it would look good. that way it'd still be bright and cheery, but not all over the place.
Reply:I agree with your BMs. Although pastels would look nice, I think brighter flower colors would work better at complimenting the dresses. By using colors that are brighter in your bouquets, you will actually make your dress colors pop more and the bouquet would be a great compliment to those colors.
Reply:http://weddings.theknot.com/ODB/themes/r...

i love this bouquet for a BM, and it is the perfect size too...

i agree with some other answers that mention a multi colored bouquet may be too busy....and that includes a multi color pastel bouquet. i really feel the link i provided is something that you can pull off. but, if you are afraid of all the colors being overwhelming, then i would go with a white tulip or a white lily.http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.asp...

http://www.fiftyflowers.com/product/Whit...
Reply:I love the colors in the second link! If in doubt, visit a local florist. Take color swatches of the fabric if possible. I think the hot pink gerbera daisies with some blue, maybe a little white or yellow, would be good.
Reply:Don't listen to your bridemaid, I did that and didn't get champagne colored dresses but sort of happy??

So do what you want to do.
Reply:I like the first link of the flowers, I think it would go better
Reply:i liked the first flowers ..
Reply:I love the idea of three different colors for bridesmaids. Very cool, very chic and very original. Kudos!

For the flowers, I would actually try to refrain from using too many bright colors. I think the different colored dresses already make a great statement, but adding a multi-colored bouquet into the picture might look a little too chaotic, you know?

I LOVE gerber daisies. If I were having a spring wedding, that would be my flower of choice. I would stick to a very neutral color for the bridesmaids bouquets such as cream or light link.

This color is more pale yellow rather than cream, but could be used:

http://www.fiftyflowers.com/site_files/F...

Having the girls hold simple white daisies with the yellow center would be very pretty as well:

Reply:Have you visited a florist's shop? That's what I did for my wedding. I went to one that was highly recommended to me. I gave the florist my wedding colors and a budget. She showed me books, magazines, and asked what things I wanted. She did a beautiful job. If you haven't done that, you should. It doesn't take long. It doesn't cost anything until you sign the contract. If you go to someone that knows what they are doing you might be surprised at what they can offer.

I love the bouquet she did for me. It was so beautiful and perfect.
Reply:First of all, I love the idea of having the three different colors! (My bridesmaids wore printed dresses, and we had four colors to 'play' with.)

If you go with the pastels, it may end up looking like a baby shower...

I agree with your women, going with stronger hues

of flowers is the way to go -

You need to talk with your florist to see what flowers are available in which colors - and at what time of year your wedding is.

Reply:I think that having the flowers stand out would look good. But I don't know if I would make all the flowers in the bouquet that bright color. Maybe what you could do a bouquet with hot pink, medium pink and light pink; then do the same for the rest of the flowers. The varying shades would look lovely together.

You could use the pink gerbera daisies. They come in hot, medium and light pink. Maybe something like this:

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1367/6114...

For the blue bouquet it may be a little harder, but you could use some deep blue orchids and some blue hydrangeas:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3071/2336...

Then for the yellow you could use the gerbera daisies, or you could do another flower:

http://img.123securepay.com/StoreBuilder...

You can also take some fabric samples to the florist and they will be able to match up the flower colors perfectly. Also, you might want to think about how you want to do your bouquet because you don't want your bouquet to clash with the bridesmaids bouquets.
